4 tips to enhance your blonde hair

Blonde hair is by definition fragile and subject to color variations. Without an adapted care routine, its shade can quickly turn yellow or take on greenish undertones. From the right shampoo to plant-based coloring, here are 4 habits to adopt now to enhance your blonde hair.

1. Protéger ses cheveux du soleil, du sel et du chlore

It is well known: holidays in the sun and blonde hair do not go well together. Light hair is particularly sensitive to the effects of UV rays, sea salt and chlorine. Because of their very low pigmentation, blonde hairs absorb more of the chemical agents contained in chlorine. This is what gives them that famous greenish undertone after a few weeks around a swimming pool. This mainly affects colored hair, but natural blonde hair can occasionally face the same problem.

To maintain beautiful blonde hair, prevention is key. You must protect your hair before swimming in chlorinated water, even if you only go occasionally. When the hair fiber is dry or damaged, a single contact with chlorine may be enough to create false undertones.

Nothing works better than jojoba oil: it creates a protective barrier around the hair and prevents chlorine from penetrating the cuticle. Unlike other vegetable oils, jojoba oil is not photosensitizing. On the contrary, it contains a natural solar filter that protects us from UV rays. On hair, it does wonders: it protects from UV, maintains a pretty color, and nourishes at the same time. A 3-in-1 product that deserves to be known.

2. Choose the right shampoo and conditioner

The shelves of supermarkets are full of shampoos labeled “shampoo for natural blonde hair” or “organic shampoo for blonde hair,” for example. But did you know that a good shampoo for blonde hair is simply one that gently cleanses the hair fiber without stripping it? To do this, you need to pay attention to the surfactants or sulfates used in the formula: while surfactants are necessary to achieve foaming power, some of them, such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), are far too harsh for hair. This is even more true for light-colored hair, which requires special care. Here are our recommendations:

  • If your hair is bleached, choose Color Clean, specially formulated for dry and sensitized hair. Pair it with Color Care, since a natural shampoo must be followed by a detangling balm to close the cuticle.
  • If your hair is natural or colored with plant-based dyes, opt for Sensity (for dry hair/sensitive scalp) or Daily Clean (for normal hair/frequent use). Their unique washing base removes impurities gently. For conditioners: choose Sweet Care for lots of hydration, or Natural Color if your hair is oily or fine.

3. Adopt a tailor-made treatment

As explained above, there is no such thing as a natural shampoo for blonde hair. A shampoo only has one purpose: washing. On wet hair, water acts as a barrier that prevents the active ingredients from penetrating the fiber. To treat and care for the hair in depth, the solution is to work on dry hair. Our treatment:

  • Choose your oil care: Renovator (nourishing, for normal to thick hair) or Repair (lighter, for oily or fine hair).
  • Add a few drops of the Nacre essential oil synergy, to adapt to the needs of blonde hair. Apply to the entire head, leave on for about 20 minutes, then wash twice.

The vegetable oils hydrate and rebalance the hair and scalp, while the essential oils of bergamot, lemon and tansy neutralize yellow tones and give pearly highlights. This is the purple shampoo 2.0.

4. Opt for plant-based coloring

If your hair is not naturally blonde and you use oxidation coloring or bleaching, you would gain a lot by switching to plant-based coloring. Why? Because oxidation dyes and bleaching require constant maintenance (toners, nourishing masks, glosses) and fade quickly, whereas plant-based coloring remains stable over time. The explanation: synthetic colorants open the cuticle and change the structure of the hair. Plant pigments delicately coat the fiber and preserve it. Result: healthy hair, in great condition, that retains color and doesn’t fade or dull.

Note: natural coloring cannot lighten hair (no chemical agents). It can, however, give golden reflections, making the hair reflect more light and appear slightly lighter by optical effect. Forget the so-called organic blonde shampoo. Despite promises, a product applied on wet hair does not penetrate the fiber and has no treatment action. There is no such thing as a shampoo for natural blondes. Our Nacre treatment, applied before shampoo, brings much more convincing effects. Combined with the other 3 tips, it guarantees beautiful, strong blonde hair with balanced tones.
