What is the Ecogarantie label?
Ecogarantie has been an ecological label for more than 20 years. It is the strictest ecolabel in Europe, covering non-food products such as cosmetics, cleaning products, feminine hygiene items, baby care products, and more.
Its role is to guarantee the ecological and organic reliability of a product. It certifies that all plant-based ingredients come 100% from organic farming and that the finished products are fully biodegradable.
The Ecogarantie label is built around 4 key values:

Safety: not only consumer safety with products that are safe to use, but also animal safety, since Ecogarantie is firmly against animal testing. No product tested on animals can ever be certified with Ecogarantie.

Social responsibility: ensuring equal human relationships. In sales, purchasing, and customer interactions, no discrimination is tolerated. Ecogarantie certifies that the brand applies and believes in equality for all.

Ecology: from ingredients to manufacturing, including transport and packaging, Ecogarantie guarantees that the brand has chosen the most eco-friendly approach at every stage.

Certified products: why is it important?
Among today’s massive range of cosmetics, it’s not always easy to identify which products are truly respectful of the environment and our health.
The offer is vast, and labels are often hard to decipher. Ingredient lists filled with Latin or unfamiliar names may sometimes look falsely natural, other times falsely chemical, making things even more confusing…
What’s more, green and organic trends are booming. Brands take advantage of this with greenwashing and floral packaging. Products are wrapped in shades of green and accompanied by fresh spring-like slogans, while in reality, many of these cosmetics are packed with chemical, often toxic ingredients!
A reliable ecolabel such as Ecogarantie allows you to make an informed choice. It guarantees that a product truly respects your ecological values. A green-colored packaging, a slogan, or a claim is not proof of a brand’s ecological commitment, but a credible label is a true guarantee.
How do you know the Ecogarantie label is reliable?
A strict and transparent set of standards
For a product to be certified with the Ecogarantie ecolabel, it must meet a list of strict criteria outlined in a detailed charter. For Ecogarantie, this charter is extensive, making it the most rigorous ecolabel in Europe. The criteria cover ingredient sourcing and traceability, production sustainability, product biodegradability, packaging, and more.
An additional and significant guarantee of the label’s reliability is its transparency: the Ecogarantie charter is publicly accessible. You can simply download the PDF from the label’s official website and review all the requirements that products must fulfill to be Ecogarantie-certified.
Annual updates
Obtaining the Ecogarantie label doesn’t mean a product is certified for life, only for one year. An audit is conducted annually to ensure the certified product continues to meet the ecolabel’s criteria. This means that your plant-based shampoo, for example, is always up to date with the latest ecological standards.
Independence of the label
The Ecogarantie ecolabel is fully independent. It relies on external, independent control bodies to ensure objective and impartial evaluation. These organizations review not only the product but also its full lifecycle, from transport and packaging to social responsibility, both at the time of certification and in yearly follow-ups.

Our main goal, beyond offering high-quality products, is to provide natural haircare that respects the environment, people, and their health. The Ecogarantie label is our way of proving our genuine commitment to ecology and natural practices.
Why aren’t all Hairborist products labeled?
At Hairborist, almost all of our products are Ecogarantie-certified. Only a few, such as our detanglers, have not yet received the label because they are not yet 100% biodegradable… but we are working hard on it!
These products could probably meet the criteria of other, less strict labels, but that is not our goal. We want to offer products that are truly organic and ecological, not just carrying a label for marketing purposes. Our commitment is real: we care deeply about the environment and want to be true actors of change. That’s why we chose to work with such a strict certification.
